Throwing A Casserole Dish
 

 
 

 

With the clay centred and flattened, the centre of the dish is opened out and clay

 

 

 

The base of the dish is levelled and compressed at  the desired depth, and an appropriate weight of clay is prepared in readiness for the formation of the wall.

 

 

 

And now the wall is pulled up and formed with the hands.

 

The form of both the wall and rim are gradually shaped.
 

 

 

A rib is used to add detail to the surface and the dish is completed.

 

 

The lid is thrown (upside down) and calipers are used to gauge the required diameter of the lip in relation to the dish, so the pair match perfectly.
