Throwing A Bowl

 

Centring the clay and working the clay into a mound ready for opening out.
 

 

Carefully controlling the wheel speed and hands, the bowl is opened out to the required diameter, maintaining a suitable base depth.

 

Whilst continuing to open out to the required diameter, the clay which will form the bowl's rim is manipulated, and the first pull of the wall begins to give height to the vessel.
 

Working the rim and pulling the wall up.
 
 

Ribs and fingers are used in close harmony to shape the wall of the bowl.

 

 

Refining both the rim and walls, the bowl's shape

 can beseen to be gradually formed.                        

 

Detail is added to the interior.....

 

 

 

the rim is finished and the bowl is undercut in preparation for removal off the batt....

 

 

.....and the bowl is thrown!!
